As good a place to sit as any

Sometimes I look at my art and I'm like, I could do so much better, but I don't because I usually lose interest or I just can't figure out what to improve.

This pic, however, is an example of what I can do when I'm struck by the motivation bug. Details upon details upon details. If you download you can read the signs and stuff.

As for the characters: The girl's named Laurel, and I haven't settled on a name for the dude yet. They are first years at a school called Penumbra Academy, which is a sort of fancy boarding school on an artificial planet called the Crucible. Basically, the setup is that humans traveled to this new solar system and divided themselves up among the various planets, where they stayed for thousands upon thousands of years as isolated cultures, sophisticated and rapidly changing. A few planets experimented with genetic engineering, among other, marginally less savory things. After evolving independently of each other for millennia, humans had become extraordinarily varied.

Then, along came the Clisti, the most technologically advanced culture, and they were like, "Hey, let's build a planet." So they did. And then all the humans from every planet reunited on the Crucible for tea and cookies.

Haha that's a hilariously simplified version of events. The actual history is full of war and genocide and racism, but it's 1 am and I've got work tomorrow.
